Does functional code look awkward to you? Do you like the idea but you just can't wrap your head around it? Let's ignore all the theory and just look at three functional idioms that will change your daily programming in Java.
In this talk, we'll review common implementation patterns to check for existence, to handle exceptions and to provide alternate execution paths. We'll learn how monads can be seen as just a different kind of container, and are as easy to use as Java's for-each loop. We'll re-implement commonly used code snippets in Java using the Vavr.io library to help you making a gentle paradigm shift. With the three functional idioms Option, Try and Either we'll achieve the same results but make our code more readable, predictable and less error-prone.
