Tom Schindl ist Mitbesitzer und CTO einer Westösterreichischen Software Firma. Im Eclipse-Ökosystem ist Tom Committer in diversen Projekten (e4, Platform-UI, EMF, Nebula und UFaceKit) und auch Mitglied des Architectual Council.
Im e4-Projekt entwickelte Tom Schindl den Urprototypen, welcher die Grundlage für die weitere Entwicklung darstellte.

e4 ist der Codename der nächsten Eclipse-Applikation Platform für IDE and RCP-Appliktionen.
e4 ist ein von Grund auf neue entwickeltes Applikationsframework, welches auf Technologien wie EMF und Programmiermodellen wie z.B. DI (Dependency Injection) basiert.
Auf der UI-Seite versucht e4 den Anforderungen moderner Applikationen, durch den Einsatz von deklarativem Styling (ähnlich Css im Browser), zu entsprechen.
